The USS Missouri (BB-63) became the last battleship when she was decommissioned for the second time and re-entered the reserve fleet. Her last Commanding Officer, Captain Albert Lee Kaiss, USN was the last sailor to leave the ship and therefore became the “last battleship sailor.” All very true. I can remember the day quite well.
